Outdoor LED Screens
An outdoor LED screen stays readable in direct sunlight and operates year-round, even through the Estonian winter. Lumepix designs and installs outdoor LED screens for advertising sites, building façades and public spaces, complete with support structures, power and remote management.
Where Outdoor LED Screens Work
An outdoor LED screen is built to operate year-round in direct sunlight, rain and frost. The modular surface is sized to fit the façade, pole or structure.
Advertising Sites
Roadside and urban advertising screens that rotate multiple ads on a single surface and can be sold by time slot.
Façades and Buildings
Façade screens for office buildings, shopping centres and hotels that bring the brand out onto the street.
Shopping Centre Entrances
Campaigns and tenant content placed right on the shopper's path, at the car park and entrance.
Petrol Stations and Car Service Centres
Price displays and offers that are readable from a moving vehicle and from far down the road.
Municipalities and Public Spaces
City information, event announcements and emergency alerts in squares, bus shelters and town centres.
Stadiums and Outdoor Venues
Screens for outdoor arenas and open-air events that remain readable even in daylight.
How to Choose an Outdoor LED Screen
Outdoors, the right solution is determined by brightness, weather resistance and viewing distance. The support structure, wind load and required permits also need to be taken into account.
Brightness
An outdoor screen typically needs 5,000–10,000 nits to stay readable in sunlight. A light sensor automatically lowers the brightness in the evening and at night, saving energy, extending the life of the LEDs and avoiding glare for road users.
Pixel Pitch and Viewing Distance
An outdoor screen is usually viewed from a distance, so a pixel pitch of 4–10 mm is typically suitable for advertising sites. In pedestrian areas and at entrances, where the viewing distance is just a few metres, a finer pitch is chosen, for example 2.5–4 mm.
Weather Resistance
The front of an outdoor screen should be rated at least IP65 to keep water and dust out of the modules. In the Estonian climate, operation in sub-zero temperatures, condensation prevention and cabinet ventilation in summer are also important.
Support Structure and Wind Load
The screen is mounted on a façade, a freestanding pole or a rooftop structure. The support structure is calculated based on the screen's weight and wind load, and a structural engineer is brought in where needed.
Permits and Approvals
Installing an outdoor screen often requires a permit from the local municipality, and for advertising sites the advertising tax must also be taken into account. We help prepare the drawings and technical data needed for approvals.
Remote Management and Reliability
An outdoor screen isn't visited every day, so its operation is monitored remotely. Content changes, schedules, brightness settings and fault alerts are all handled over the network, so issues can be addressed before the client even notices them.
From Idea to a Working Screen
An outdoor screen project covers not only the screen itself but also the support structure, power and permits. We handle the entire process, so the client has a single point of contact.
Consultation
We assess the location, viewing distances, traffic flows and sun orientation, and select the right solution.
Design and Engineering
Support structure, power connection, visualisation and documentation for approvals.
Installation
Installation of the structure and screen, calibration and remote management setup.
Maintenence
Remote monitoring, periodic inspections, spare modules and a fast response to faults.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, a quality outdoor screen is designed to operate across a wide temperature range, including sub-zero conditions. What matters is an IP65 or higher protection rating, a well-built cabinet and proper ventilation. A screen in continuous operation also generates its own heat, which helps prevent condensation in winter.
Start from how far away the screen will be viewed. For a roadside advertising site viewed from tens of metres away, 6–10 mm is suitable. At an entrance or in a pedestrian area, where viewers are just a few metres away, 2.5–4 mm is better.
In most cases, yes. Installing an outdoor screen or advertising structure generally requires a permit from the local municipality, and the requirements vary from one municipality to another. We help prepare the necessary drawings and technical data.
Consumption depends on the screen's area, brightness and content. Because the light sensor lowers brightness in the evening and at night, and darker content uses less power, average consumption is considerably lower than the maximum. We calculate it separately for each project.
The price depends on the screen area, pixel pitch, brightness, support structure and the complexity of the installation. Send us the location and desired dimensions, and we'll give you an initial estimate and propose a suitable solution.
Content is managed remotely over the network using content management software, which lets you build playlists, schedule ads and monitor what is currently showing on the screen. Depending on the location, the connection is made via cable, mobile data or a radio link.
